TL:DR: if you’re a hobbyist, you don’t need all this. If you use a T8 to sharpen for money, it’s definitely worth considering.

This is not a paid review. I paid full price, albeit without 19% VAT as it was exported outside the EU to Canada.

AFAIK, this is the first review, in English, of SchleifJunkie’s (“SJ”) “Bundle water tray holder and drip guard for T8 leather wheel side with double-sided sanding device” (https://schleifjunkies.de/…/bundle-water-tray-holder…/ )

In other words, for mounting a second 250mm diameter CBN or diamond wheel in place of Tormek’s LA-220 leather honing wheel, this kit holds a second Tormek T8 water trough (not included) in place, as well as keeping water off the now-exposed TO-R23 rubber drive wheel. This kit sells for 79 Euros (VAT included), and includes both a drive wheel drip guard for 250mm CBN or diamond wheels, as well as a drip guard for Tormek’s “standard wheels”.

The kit does not include: Tormek T8 water trough and drip tongue, water trough magnetic scraper, Paul Tsigakis’s 3D printed Tormek Drip Tray (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4791736 ), a Frontal Vertical Base (“FVB”) for Paul’s Drip Tray to mount onto, a double-sided (65/85 cm wide) guide bar, and an adapter to mount the second wheel onto the rubber drive wheel.

I also sped up my T8 using a speed increaser around my T8 motor’s drive shaft. My T8 now spins at 130 rpm (Canada’s electricity is 60 Hz; if your country is 50 Hz, then it will be 50/60 percent slower).

So it’s not a cheap modification. However, for those, like I, sharpening as a business, this saves you buying a second T8. If your business is mobile, this saves valuable counter space in your vehicle. Also, it speeds up changing guide bar heights when changing angles, as you have to adjust only one guide bar height for changing the grinding angle on two wheels.

The two wheels are 9” / 225 mm apart. Sharpening most knives are no problem, except for long, straight slicers (usually Wüsthof or Henckels).

I sharpen meat cutting guillotine blades for a repeat customer. They are 2.5 kg / 5.5 lbs each and about 12mm / 1/2” thick. I sharpen them using Tormek’s SVH-320 Planer Blade Jig. However, due to the depth of the blade, I cannot sharpen them on the “regular” side – the SVH-320 legs are not long enough. I have to use a FVB to move the SVH-320 further out, and then move the wheel to the leather wheel side. But this drips water onto the rubber drive wheel; it always starts slipping after only a few passes.

This kit solves my problem. It did not come with any printed instructions. SJ has some videos on YouTube, but Google Translate is not perfect. The enclosed pictures should help anyone buying the same kit to put it together.

I like how the water trough holder can be easily removed. The eyelets may be prone to rusting as they are not stainless steel – we’ll see (but cheap to replace). You only need one set of clips to hold the drive wheel drip guard to Paul’s 3D printed drip tray. They seem fragile, but four sets are provided – so, good move. SJ sells individual replacement parts.

Definitely a much superior jig to the standard tormek, this jig will hold smaller knives than the original, once you have it closed tight it’s not going anywhere, worth every penny

I have been using these fine stones on my K03 from TSProf for a couple of months and must admit that this have taken my polishing to a new and somewhat unbelievable level. Not only are the edges now like a mirror but the cutting capabilities of my various knives has improved dramatically too. Highly recommended.

The length measuring block far surpassed my explications. Not that I didn’t expect it to be good, but it was very good. Solid built and the Tormek knife jigs fit perfectly and reading the measurements was simple and clear. My only regret was that I waited so long before I purchased it. I love the locking block so that the measurement doesn’t move if you slide it around on your work table. Thanks…..

Got it right time, had to put a new bevel on ESEE 5. It was a really easy job with 400Grit. Wheel has a very good material removal rate, the best part of this type of wheels, that when you switch to Tormek diamond extra fine, you do not have to measure angle again. Will buy another wheel shortly.

Nachdem ich mir die tollen Video’s von Hanns auf Youtube angeschaut habe, habe ich mir die 3 CBN Räder 160 – 400 – 1000 gekauft und gleich ausprobiert. Das kann mann nur eins sagen : SUPER!. Die schleifen wirklich so gut und es geht beim Wechsel alles so viel einfacher, weil die Räder die gleiche größe haben.
Auch die abgerundete Seiten sind sehr praktisch. Die Qualität is perfekt und sicherlich sein Geld Wert.
Sehrt gut gemacht Hanns. Danke dir vielmals. Jezt macht das schleifen noch mehr spaß!
